Temporary closure of Our Vintage Affair

It is with regret that I am writing this particular post but after alot of to-ing and fro-ing over the last few months I have decided that Our Vintage Affair is going to close just 'TEMPORARILY' whilst I for one concentrate on personal and work issues. Life at the minute is very demanding and hectic and something just has to give and it has to be this challenge site. Both Loreta and Kate have had to step down recently due to workload increases and it has made me think that for now that is what I will do.

I would like to thank all my lovely DT ladies for their beautiful work and commitment over the last 6 months and mainly Loreta who has helped and supported me for the last year in running Our Vintage Affair. Also not forgetting our fantastic regular supporter The Craft Barn and our other sponsors who have kindly donated prizes for our well deserved and creative winners.

I will not be closing the challenge site but leaving it open so that you can still view all the lovely DT creations and of course all your stunning entries. In the words of Arnie in The Terminator - 'I'll be back'!!!

We will of course judge our August entries and announce the winners on 1st September 2011 as normal.

Hi all, my names' Gosia ( http://malflu.blogspot.com)

Scrapbooking has been my most important hobby for almost two years now. It allows me to overcome my weaknesses, develops my imagination and creativity as well as... has a therapeutic influence.

I live in a village and I am a mother of two, being a school teacher (advisor) at the same time. I'm not very tidy, but the mess disturbs me. I tend to look for some "necessary" hand work. I never put any scrapbooking challenges off but id doesn't apply to other challenges...
I just adore making cards, recycling useful and unuseful things, I love machine sewing. I'm learning all the time, looking for inspiration and developing my passions.
My life is the proof that dreams are powerful and they come true when you expect the least.

Anna Brises:

My name is Anna Zaprzelska, also known as Brises. I live in Poland [Europe] with my family (my husband and one wonderful son). I love my family and friends, taking photos, travelling (my way: walking the world on the occasion of solar eclipses, last I've seen eclipse in China (in 2009) and I plan to see eclipse in North America (in 2017):D).
I have been papercrafting for over 3 years and now I enjoy scrapping, card making, stamping, embossing and altered items. I love all the colors of life so I like to be creative whenever possible :)
The reason why I started scrapbooking is because I wanted to keep memories for my son. Now, I'm addicted to scrapping and enjoy creating everyday:) In scrapbooking I love sewing, crochet lace, butterflies and flowers.
Have I own style? Who knows, I'm still looking for, but I know for sure: I love scrapbooking! For me it is keeping moments, memories and have allowed me to combine my love for crafts and photography while documenting unique family memories, so what more could I ask for?! I would like to show you some things. In a little bit retro climate and different colors.

For this challenge I used the lovely papers Bo Bunny from Gabrielle Collection and in the picture my niece Kathy - little butterfly:)

June Layout Challenge

Wow May seems to have flown by and we are now ready for our June layout challenge!! But...... before I tell you about our next challenge let me introduce you to our winning guest designer for this month

Gayle:

Hi all, my names' Gayle Price, and like all of us in this wonderful artsy,crafty world I love playing with patterned paper, scissors, glue, ink, paint and pretty much anything you can colour, cut up, stick down and alter in order to create a picture and tell a story. Colour,pattern and texture are the key elements that inspire me, and that I always try to include in my work; along with good, balanced design and small details............I love lots of little details ! I have always been involved with art and have an art education background, but I have not been a "scrapbooker" for very long, so I don't know if I have a particular "style". I'm attracted to vintage, shabby and grunge elements, but I like to think of myself as 'eclectic', with an open mind to everything. I love to experiment and learn new techniques and there are always interesting and exciting ideas being developed every day in the art world and so many talented and creative artists out there to be inspired by. My other favourite things are my wonderful family ( of course ), photography, contemporary dance, music, cooking and reading.

The LO I have created for Our Vintage Affairs' GRANDPARENTS THEME, tells the story of my eldest daughter with her " papa". They are both wearing the ' daggiest' beanies and the photo is old and not a very good quality, but to me it expressed the beautiful bond of love, trust and wonderment you often see between small children and their grandparents.

Welcome to our May card challenge!!!

Whilst blog-hopping I came across some very beautiful and unusual folded cards and after lots of googling, found the card to be called a FOLDED NAPKIN card. And that is our challenge this month - to create a vintage / shabby style napkin card. There is a very well explained tutorial over at StampARTIC by Marianne that we OVA ladies followed quite easily so before I unveil the DT creations I would like to announce our sponsor for this month. Our Guest Designer Marianne

I am Marianne H, soon 55 years old. I am married to Steinar and we have a son and a daughter and five wonderful grandchildren. For three years ago a friend showed me how to make cards and then it was done. Since then I have been totally addicted to papers and stamping. It is a hobby which I really love and enjoy and I spend a lot of time in my hobby room. Mostly I make cards and boxes, sometimes an LO. It is so many talented bloggers out there and so much to be inspired of. Tim Holtz is a big, big favourite of mine. I love his products and way to do things. I like to try new technics and stiles and combine them with another. When I am not in my hobby room I also love to do some gardening and I like to cook.

For this challenge I used the lovely 3endy papir designet by Gudrun Loennecken and a bazzill for the backing, I have used vintage photo and bundled sage and distressed the edges. The edges I punched with a Matha Stewart around the edges punch and a lace I had just laying there and waiting to be used to put it together. Yes, and the pearls around the inside is a lace with pearls. The text stamps I am not sure who has made them, but they are so nice..

Hi, my name is Jolanda and I live in the Netherlands together with my husband Ed and 14 year old daughter Jacky.

I am an addicted scrapbooker since 2006, and started with tiny mini-albums which I made for every guest that attended a party that we threw.

Nowadays I am not that into mini-albums, after the 2^nd page I find it difficult to fill the other ones J But I love making layouts, altered items and ATC´s though!

My style is best described as shabby or vintage and in order to create that, my fave scrapping tools are my edge-distresser, brown ink, figure scissors and sandingpaper.

There´s not much more to tell you about me, just that I love to participate in all kinds of challenges, and most of my pagetitles are inspired by songs.

It is with great regret that I am having to address this on our challenge blog but as it has caused alot of upset to one of our followers I think it is only right that it is aired here on Our Vintage Affair.

We were made aware yesterday that very unsavoury and spiteful comments were left on a OVA followers blog which appeared to have come from one of our DT members. An investigation was immediately carried out by both Loreta and myself and to cut a long story short one of our DT members has now resigned due to personal reasons which will remain private. However, we want to point out that in no way was OVA associated with any of these comments and ...I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH that these views and opinions were NOT the views and opinions of OVA!!! This challenge blog is here to inspire and be inspired by all our creative vintage and shabby followers.

I would like to publicly apologise to Georgie that this has happened and assure her that they will not happen again.

Georgie - I do hope you will become a follower again of OVA in the future and hopefully join in with future challenges.

This apology also extends to any of our followers who may have been unfortunate enough to have received unsavoury comments on their blogs whilst joining in with our very recent challenges.

Anyway, one challenge is over - another just starting. And today is the day to announce next challenge in Our Vintage Affair.

March Altered Item Challenge:

"Kitchen"

This time the challenge is all about the kitchen! And it does not matter in which form or way you will approach it. Simply it has to have something to do with a kitchen: it can be a reciepe book, a fridge magnet, altered kitchen item, or a box with picture of a cooking lady, he he...

The only thing is - we have to see it is a kitchen topic. You should explain in your blog how your item is related to the kitchen if it is difficult to understand it from the first sight.

Anne Gro little bit about herself:

I am a 35 year old girl from Norway. I live in a small town in Telemark county, with my boyfriend Ronny. I was introduced to scrapbooking of my sister. And I promissed myself that I would never start this madness. But in 2010 after making a card for my mother`s birthday, I was hooked. I get inspired by all the great blogs out there. I`m so impressed with all the creative people around the world.

I mostly make cards and altered items. Style that is closest to my heart is vintage and shabby chic. I love it old,worn but sweet! The colors I use most is brown,beige,off-white, pink and purple. I usually start without no ide, just find the paper and embellishment that match. And the ideas comes while I work. Can`t live without lace and flowers!

I`m so lucky to be guestdesigner for this month challenge. This is my " Grandma`s old recepie book" I have made it out of coffe-filter as book-pages. The filters was first stained in coffee, and then decorated with lace,old book-pages, and all kind off matching embellishments.

February Altered Item challenge

Hello everyone! New year has come and brought some changes in Our Vintage Affair. Not only we have changed the looks of the page but some other things as well, he he... We hope you will enjoy our challenges!

From now on we will have TWO challenges per month. Every 1st of the month we will have ALTERED ITEM challenge and every 10th of the month - VINTAGE CARD/LO challenge. New challenge rules are on the left in a sidebar - please read it carefully!

This challenge is all about Photo Boxes. It can be as good alternative for photo albums or mini albums. It might be used to save some space on your shelf or as a present to dear person, it might be dedicated to few photos from one occasion or very many photos from one year.

Challenge is due to 22.00 hrs on the 1st of March.

Challenge 5 and Challenge 4 Winner!

Well its that time again - Hope you are all ready to have a go at the next challenge! So before I tell you all about it let me announce the winner of our Wedding Card competition!! And that is.................

I started making these as birthday gifts for my girlfriends and they can easily be adapted for anniversaries and wedding presents. They are easily removed once the wine has been drunk so can be kept and used for the next one :O) They are very simple to make and I have provided a tutorial to help.

Tools

Bottle of Wine

2 lots of patterned paper

Embossing Ink & Gold Embossing Powder

Stamp of your choice

border punch

ribbon

eyelets

Crop-a-dile

Vintage Photo Ink / Sponge

Distresser / Scissors

Start with a piece of patterned paper 8.5" by 5" and a smaller contrasting paper measuring 5" by 4". Punch this paper only top and bottom

With Versamark Ink and your preferred stamp randomly stamp all over the larger piece of paper, sprinkle with gold powder, tap off the excess powder and heat emboss.

Now distress all the edges with either a Distresser or Scissors.

Now ink up all the edges of both papers with Vintage Photo.

On the reverse of the larger paper mark out evenly 5 spaces - this is where your eyelets are going to be placed.

Add the eyelets and set with the crop-a-dile.

With the smaller paper add a piece of double-sided sticky tape to the right hand side

Attach this to the reverse of the larger piece as below

This is what it should like when turned over

Now its time to wrap the cover around the wine bottle and tie it nice and snugly with ribbon

Now the best bit - decorate it for whatever occasion of your choice!!

This is one I did for a friends wedding last year.

Problems with the internet!

I must apologise for the lateness of this post - came back from holiday, made a couple of crafty bits which I put on my blog, went to this blog and CRASH!!! We have had no internet since - the poor engineer was up and down the street scratching his head, one minute in the van then up a ladder - its back on but very very slow!!! Challenge 4 and Challenge 3 winner

Well are we ready for the next challenge hosted by Loreta? Well before I hand over to Loreta I would like to announce the winner of Challenge 3 - Tussie Mussie. I know we didn't have many entries for this challenge (well it is Summer and we're all very much in need of spending time with our families in the gorgeous sun that we seem to be having - here in the UK anyway), so without further ado the votes that came in (very close again) chose ........

So over to Loreta who has chosen this months theme of a WEDDING card! A wedding card of your design but just take a look at this beautiful card that Loreta has kindly made and written a tutorial for

and opened up

ABSOLUTLY STUNNING!!!!!

TUTORIAL

To make this folded wedding card you will need:

- Paper: I used Webster’s Pages paper for main folder and the recycled paper for details
- Scissors and edge pucher
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Glue or double sided tape
- Embellishments for decoration: picture, pearls, two types of ribbons, two metal details, laser cut butterfly, rub-ons, felt detail, rings, etc.

1. Take a piece of paper. It does not matter the size as long as it is square shape. I chose WP double sided paper. Mark the middle point and fold paper towards this point.

2. Measure the middle part leaving some space until the folding lines. Here the inside card will be placed.

3. Cut and fold the card for inside. I used recycled paper. It has rougher surface and slightly creamy color. It fits perfectly for vintage details.

4. Cut edges with puncher. Use sand paper from both sides to remove sharpness of edges.

5. Prepare the ‘pocket’ detail and decorate both parts with rub-ons.

6. Use Distress Ink from Ranger for edges to make a vintage look. Glue the pocket detail to the card base. I bent the bottom part and glued it as well as two sides of the pocket detail.

7. Prepare embellishments to decorate the inside card. Do not use too much of 3D details, as it will make it difficult to close the card. For decoration I used a vintage picture, a peace of tulle, some pearls, two metal details and laser cut butterfly. Do not forget to attach a ribbon before decorating a card. Then I glued tulle to the picture from under it, and glued picture to the card. Pearls are attached using hot glue gun. At the end I used metal details to make a ribbon edges look nicer.

8. The inside card is ready to use it.

9. Come back to main card folder. Prepare paper details for decoration. I used one cut with puncher and one die-cut for the card top.

10. Apply Distress Ink to the main card and paper details.

11. Decorate the detail with rub-ons and glue it to one corner of the card.

12. Attach the ribbon to the card from the top and the bottom only.

13. Decorate the title side or the top of the card. I used rub-ons to decorate die0cut detail and attached it with 3D glue squares to the card top. A felt detail I made myself and then distressed it slightly on edges. Glued rings to the felt pillow using hot glue gun as well as pillow itself and pearls around it.

14. Attach the inside card to the main card. And a folded wedding card is ready!

15. Now you need to put some money in a pocket and write congratulations and wishes on a card.

16. Fold it and tie a ribbon nicely.

17. Fold the wedding card together and tie a ribbon.

Oops - a bit of confusion with 'linky'!!!!

I'm sorry to say that I have made a bit of a mess with this 'Mr Linky' lark. It was meant to end on the 25th June but it didn't :O) - it carried on til the end of the month. OOPS! Hi everyone and welcome to our 3rd challenge of the year!!

Before I tell you about our next challenge I would just like to let you know that I am still very much looking at setting up Our Vintage Affair design team. As the site grows I am hoping that I can bring together one very talented and inspiring group of designers to inspire you every month. So on that note I would like to introduce you to our first Design Team Member - the lovely and very talented

I knew as soon as I saw Loretas entry into the shoe challenge I just had to ask her to join me - her shoes were amazing!!! I know her unique style will inspire you over the coming months challenges.

Now for this months challenge!!! We are going to have a go at creating a TUSSY MUSSY!!!!!

A tussy mussy is a small but fragrant flower bouquet. Way before deodorant was invented (lol) tussy mussies were used to block the smell of unwashed bodies and illness. In later years, they became a fragrant accessory and today, tussy mussies are used in weddings, as party favors and as decorations. Tussy Mussies can be created from either a square template or a quarter circle template which is gently folded over to create a cone ready to decorate. I have found the perfect template with instructions at Mirkwood Design

Everyone ready for the next challenge???

Before I tell you what the challenge is I would like to introduce you to our very first sponsors - CRAFTY INDIVIDUALS . Now onto the challenge.

Been thinking about this challenge for the last couple of weeks. I was thinking of doing a card but since everyone rose to the challenge and created such fantastic vintage shoes last month - we're going to carry on doing something that little bit different and this months challenge is BAGS!!!!!

Here are the bags I have been working on most evenings this week - as with the shoes the designs are endless.

I made the gift bag by covering a paper bag front and back with cardstock, paper, a vintage image printed on photo paper - the large cream flower is handmade from scalloped nestabilities. Then I made a little black and white polka dot handbag from the largest rectangle nestabilites and just made a little box gusset to fit so it actually opens up and can keep something in it.... then I made another one!! The little brooch on the handbag is a paper image, sprinkled clear embossing powder on it and melted it with a heat gun. I then popped it in the freezer for 10 mins and then cracked it to create an aged look by rubbing Walnut Stain into the cracks.

My bags are just examples of what you can create - there are quite a few templates and tutorials on splitcoaststampers that you might like to use so feel free to create ANY type of bag you like :O)
